Have to start somewhere...

Let's blog, I said. It'll be fun, I said. You'll find time to do it, I said. Well that was two months ago, and today is the first post I'm writing. And while I'm in the middle of a million projects, really, a million, I have decided that I should post about my latest creation.

Crochet is one of the crafts I have been dabbling in of late. And within that dabbling, I am dabbling with using crochet thread. At first it was going smoothly, but the faster I got, the more often my spool would topple over and roll away. So I went to my handy dandy favorite source of creative inspiration : Pinterest. Unfortunately, typing in a search for "crochet thread holder" yielded just about every thing you could make with crochet thread or ways to store crochet thread in your craft room, but not too many ways to contain your thread while working with it.

On to my next source of inspiration: the Dollar Tree. My first thought was to use a cleaning wipes container. Didn't work. Putting the thread in upright was too tight and the thread wouldn't pull up, and the container, despite being a large wipes container, was too small for my spool to lay down in. Plus, despite a good washing, it still smelled like cleaning products.

Then a lightbulb went off in my head: a toilet paper holder. Now I've seen people use free standing toilet paper holders to mount yarn to, but given that I crochet at work, I needed something more portable. So I purchased a cheap wall mounted holder. Of course, that alone would not be suffice. On to the wonderful basement of wonders. I found a 4x12" piece of spare tile, and mounted the holder to the tile.

This has been one of the best tools I have made. It will even hold the mega 1000 yards roll! Now it's not exactly "pretty", but it works and fits nicely on my desk.

So, as I work on a super secret Mother's Day present for my Mom, which I **might** finish in time for Mother's Day, I have the list in my head for everything I need to do.

Sew my dress for Lead East 2014
Sew Victoria's dress for Lead East 2014
Add a convertible top to Victoria's car for Lead East 2014
Reupholster my vintage Silver Cross pram for Victorian Days 2014

And that's just what I can think of on the top of my head. I'm sure the list is really longer. And yes, these events are at the end of August and beginning of September, but with a very active 6 month old at home, I'm not sure when I'll find the time to do it all.

So that's the end of my first post. I'm going to self promote now and link to this from Pinterest. Then maybe someone will actually read my blog! :)
